Working with children offers a hugely rewarding career. Every child is unique, every family different, and no two days are ever the same.
Kensington and Chelsea College’s child care section offers all the Children’s and Young People’s Workforce, Early Years Educator and Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications for those right at the beginning of their child care and education career right up to the popular Foundation Degree in Early Years for experienced professionals.
Most courses are available on a full time and a part-time basis. We have built excellent links with our local nurseries, playgroups, crèches and schools so we are able to advise students on securing placements, which are required for all the level 2 and 3 courses.
The Foundation Degree in Early Years at Kensington and Chelsea College is run in collaboration with Kingston University at Level 4 and Level 5. This course combines academic study with work-based learning. All students attend college for one day between 3 pm and 9.30 pm on a Tuesday. To apply for the course you must meet the following criteria: You will have an appropriate Level 3 qualification such as the Diploma in Child Care and Education or Early Years, NNEB, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
You should have a minimum of two years’ prior experience in an appropriate setting and must be employed or undertaking voluntary work in an appropriate setting for at least 16 hours per week for the duration of the course. Coursework and assignments will require you to be working at a level where you are fully involved with curriculum planning, supporting Special Educational Needs, working with parents and all aspects of Early Years Care and Education.
We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer. Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) is offered for those who are unsure of the current value of their qualifications.
