Program Description

Fashion jewelry - Fall Semester

IED – Istituto Europeo di Design Milan

This program provides an educational experience in the system and culture of Italian design, with particular attention to contemporary trends, and more specifically on design languages.

The Jewelry Designer develops and manages the whole jewel collection project, from the concept and creative sketch – using both hands-on and digital techniques - to defining a mood and producing the collection.

The program trains students in project design by focusing on the technical skills and methodologies that are necessary to take an initial concept, study its feasibility and develop a final collection.

Schedule: Lessons run from Monday to Friday, full-time.

Target: This course is intended for motivated students interested in learning the fundamentals of jewelry design and wish to pursue further study or a career in this field. There are no pre-requisites for this program.

Methodology and structure: The Fashion Jewelry semester course offers the opportunity to develop the technical skills and basic knowledge needed to achieve creative and professional success in the jewelry industry.

The semester is focused on theoretical studies and practice-based modules on designing and project realization, which allow students to design a collection and acquire the practical skills and tools in order to express their creativity and to realize their designs.

His cultural background, aesthetic sensitivity and intuitive ability allows him to translate the symbolic language of the body and behavior into tangible objects and shapes. If jewelry is the physical representation of these symbols, then the pieces one chooses to wear reflect one’s individual values. The capacity to recognize symbols and transform them into a concrete aesthetic form is crucial for the jewelry designer.

The semester course in Fashion Jewelry is aimed at raising the student’s awareness of jewelery through a thorough study of both historical and theoretical perspective, and the practical aspect of the industry. Throughout an in-dept research, stylistic and trends awareness, materials and goldsmith techniques knowledge, partecipants will come to develop their own collection and present a final book.
