IED – Istituto Europeo di Design Milan

The Fashion Design - Academic Year program enables students to experiment and master the basic tools of design.

Theoretical lessons are enhanced by creative workshops, visits to firms, trade fairs and industrial events and seminars with industry professionals as well as portfolio building and project work. The program highlights “Made in Italy” innovation, tradition and systems.

Schedule: Lessons run from Monday to Friday, full-time.

Target: This course is intended for motivated students interested in learning the fundamentals of fashion design and are interested in pursuing further study or a career in the multi-faceted fashion industry. There are no pre-requisites for these semester courses.

Methodology and structure:

The Program is made up by the Fall and Spring semester as follows:

The Fall Semester in Fashion Design – Research and Creativity begins with the introduction to issues related to the use of color and the basics of visual representations. This includes a review of basic male / female anatomical design, fashion drawing and the introduction of computer-based design applications. The subjects of art and fashion history are covered as well to allow students to draw parallels and contrasts between art, fashion, popular culture and trends.

The Spring Semester in Fashion Design – Collection Building focuses on the acquisition and development of design, knitting and tailoring techniques as well as an in-depth study of textiles in order to complete a “creative” collection project in menswear, womenswear and knitwear.

The program is divided between practical courses covering technique and form such as drawing, knitwear, tailoring, materials and patternmaking and individual modules for the specific collection projects.

The IED approach offers students the unique opportinuty to work directly with industry professional as part of their academic experience and professionals development thanks to long-standing relationships with Italian fashion and design industry leaders.
