Community and technical colleges offer a diploma to indicate subject mastery for a variety of skills and topics. Diplomas are often globally recognized and can provide a competitive advantage in the job marketplace.
What is a diploma in professional cooking? Course instruction covers international cuisine, including French, Italian and Asian. Gastronomy, menu development, safety, hygiene, culinary decoration, baking, pastry cooking and the latest in cooking techniques are often taught. Some courses teach academic writing, financial management, kitchen management, staff development and business ethics. Most require students to pass an exam at the end of course instruction. Programs take six months to one year to complete, depending on full-time or part-time status and the institution.
Organization and management skills extend beyond the kitchen to positively impact other aspects of students’ lives. Business skills also transcend the kitchen, potentially helping individuals with personal finances, entrepreneurship and career growth.
Culinary arts programs are available around the world, so associated costs for attending vary depending on location, institution and duration. Further research is needed to ascertain all costs associated with a particular program.
A diploma in professional cooking prepares students to work in culinary arts positions. Potential jobs include restaurant manager, kitchen manager, executive chef, restaurant owner, pastry chef, sous chef and catering manager. Chefs work in a variety of industries and businesses including restaurants, cruise ships, hotels, medical facilities, nursing homes and industrial catering. Additional career opportunities exist as personal chefs, food service managers, food bloggers, food scientists, food stylists, bakers, chocolatiers, food safety directors, corporate chefs, food and beverage directors, line cooks, prep cooks and fast-food managers.
Full and part-time programs are available with on-campus or online instruction from a variety of institutions to fit your busy schedule. To start, search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.
