Diploma of Audiovisual Technology

Learn the broad skills of the audiovisual industry including lighting, sound, TV production, design, installation and event management while working on real-life productions and events around Melbourne.

Learning and teaching

You will learn in a practical hands-on environment with a strong studio focus.

Interactive presentations and assessments will take place in group and individual formats. Teachers have many years of industry experience and graduates and current industry practitioners often take guest lectures.

All programs are delivered in English.

Program structure

In this program you’ll learn practical, technical and operational skills both at RMIT and in industry in order to work in event production companies, audiovisual (AV) installations, educational settings and broadcast television. These skills include:

  • lighting
  • sound
  • TV production
  • AV design
  • AV installation
  • event management.

This program runs over 2 years (4 semesters) and consists of the Certificate IV (year 1) and the Diploma (year 2).

Diploma of Audiovisual Technology

Develop specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills that may be used in:

  • AV support for education
  • live events
  • permanent AV installation
  • television and film
  • other sectors of the audiovisual industry.

You'll be trained in:

  • AV project management
  • AV systems design
  • AV technical direction
  • lighting for live events
  • live sound
  • video production and editing.

Entry requirements

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 50%.

Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary Diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.

Selection tasks

You may be required to be interviewed, either in person or via phone/Skype.

English language requirements:

To study this program you will need to complete the Academic IELTS with an overall band of 5.5 and no individual band below 5.0.
