Program Description

Stenberg’s Counseling Therapist Diploma program provides students with the stepping stones to help others overcome challenges, achieve goals and better lives. Students learn to approach and resolve real-life situations, proper self-care, ethical decision making, strengthen relationships and other applicable soft skills. Upon graduation, you will be able to employ a variety of tactics for specific clients and empower your clients to face challenges.

Over the course of this program, students will:

  • Gain an understanding of numerous modalities
  • Learn to support individuals, couples, and families from a variety of circumstances
  • Enter the workforce with an open mind, an open heart and the ability to change lives


  • Duration: 88 weeks, including a 6-week practicum

  • Articulation/Pathway: Graduates granted transfer credits toward BCIT’s Business Management Advanced Diploma – upon completion they can continue to BCIT’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

Courses on individual, child, and youth, family, group, diversity and cultural, relationship and intimacy, loss and grief and trauma and crisis counseling are also included.

Entry Requirements

  • Mature student status (19+ years of age)
  • Grade 12 English or equivalent*
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Consent Form under the Criminal Record Review Act
  • Acceptable Medical Examination Form completed by a Physician
  • Industry required Proof of Immunity Status
  • Physician completed Acceptable Medical Examination Form

* Students can obtain equivalency for the required course from post-secondary training, Stenberg College challenge tests, etc.

Language Proficiency Requirements: Overall IELTS Academic Test score of 6.5 with no less than 6.5 in Listening and no less than 7.0 in Speaking (or other ESL equivalencies as determined by Stenberg College). Must be within the last two years.
