Learn to identify and design experiences focused on social good in this hands-on and immersive workshop.
What is this workshop?
As designers, we solve problems for a diverse set of human needs to design meaningful experiences, which requires understanding many dimensions of diversity—such as gender, ethnicity, physical ability, socio-economic background, education, and more. This course will guide you through the process of experience design with a focus on designing for social impact while integrating solutions that are equitable and inclusive.
At its core, experience design is focused on creating a wholistic solution with multiple touchpoints—sometimes digital and sometimes physical and sometimes systemic. Throughout this class, you will create a service concept and bring it to life through an experience focused on having a social impact. We will work hand-in-hand with the community we are looking to serve (yes, there will be field trips) and through this process, you will identify the key user needs from real users, prototype ideas solutions, and share back a story that inspires empathy and inclusivity.
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll help practitioners and designers from all backgrounds to design with inclusion and equity in mind. Throughout the week, we’ll build a set of skills and practices to challenge your assumptions, break down bias, and integrate inclusive practices and social-minded design into your organization. In addition, you will walk away with a new perspective, and likely, a few new friendships as well.
What will you learn and how?
