Health Services INTERLINK students have full access to the university health center. Students on student visas are required by ISU and the State of Indiana to have medical insurance. Also called the Director of Photography (or DP, for short), the cinematographer is the person who brings the “magic” behind the camera, blending his/her technical knowledge of lighting techniques with the artistic sensibility to compose the best shots for the film. Working side-by-side with the director from concept to completion, the DP serves as the director's right hand as a partner, confidant and ally through the entire process of the shoot. The director relies on a good cinematographer to help come up with outstanding shots and direct the camera/lighting crew to make every image the best it can be. Needless to say, this job is full of creative possibilities. It is also a position that can make or break a film. As an apprentice (extern) in the Film Connection cinematography program, you will be paired with a working DP who will mentor you one-on-one, teaching you not only the basics of the job, but also the tricks and techniques that come with years of experience. You'll not only learn to work the gear—you'll learn to trust your own artistic eye under the guidance of your mentor.
