Universities and colleges set their own admission requirements for higher education courses, so they vary broadly. Depending on the course, students may be able to get into higher education with a range of qualifications. If you're applying to do a course, you may find that work experience is taken into consideration alongside any qualifications you have. Some higher education institutes and colleges offer courses as preparation for a certain type of degrees. They usually don't result in separate criteria as they simply qualify you to enter the degree program itself. Courses can be taught in a broad selection of fields of study.
Higher education in Albanian offered by 13 public universities. The most recent one is the University of Durres, which was opened in September 2006. The University of Sports in Tirana (Universiteti i Sporteve i Tiranës) formerly the Academy of Physical Training and Sports, from 2010. The University of Arts once upon a time Academy of Fine Arts (Akademia e Arteve) from 2011. In addition, there are 46 private universities and faculties operating in Albania. All universities have several faculties. The so called "non-university schools" give higher education programmes of two years.

The goal of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) is to prepare students to read, write, speak and listen to English in order to succeed in their university courses. During the program, students familiarize themselves with academic and language activities normally encountered in university level studies.
