Possibly one of the oldest natural sciences, Physics is concerned with matter and its motion through spacetime with special attention to concepts of mechanics, light, heat and other radiation, magnetism, sound, electricity and atomic structure. Physics is a branch of fundamental science, not a practical science. Thus, Physics courses will often be a prerequisite for other natural science courses like Geology, Chemistry, Biology or Astronomy. Physics courses will also be requisite for a career in engineering, medicine or computer science.
The essential concepts and theories presented in Physics courses must not only be logically true, but also match observed experimental data. Some Physics courses will place more emphasis on theory, while others will involve laboratory work where students will discover the laws of physics for themselves.
