The Intensive English Program at OPMI consists of 6 consecutive levels using the series LIFE by Paul Dummett, John Hughes, and Helen Stephenson, published by Cengage Learning. The Intensive English Program is communicative based, focusing on the skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

BEGINNING LEVEL 1 The goal of this course is for the learner’s acquisition and command of sound structuresand sentence patterns of basic introductory English by practicing giving personal information, asking and answering questions: phone numbers, address, nationality; and describing places, family and vacation. BEGINNING LEVEL 2 The goal of this course is to help learners improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to gain confidence in speaking, increase vocabulary, start conversations, and improve fluency and accuracy used in day to day situations, such as making medical appointments, banking, following directions. Students will also talk about types of vacations, tourism, objects and possessions. LEVEL 3 The goal of this course is to help learners improve their speaking, writing, reading and listening skills in real – life situations, such as communicating over the phone, making small talk, reading short articles from the newspapers or magazines, writing simple narrative and descriptive paragraphs. Topics include: talking about medical problems, transportation and leisure activities.
