What is a course in ESL? ESL stands for “English as a Second Language,” and these classes are designed to teach the English language to students who are not native speakers. These courses typically cover subjects such as English grammar, pronunciation, spelling, and vocabulary. They also help to improve students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening to English. In some cases, the course may be tailored towards English usage in a specific field such as business or tourism. It may also include sections on the culture and society of English-speaking countries.

The greatest advantage of taking a course in ESL is that it helps to improve proficiency in the English language. English is used in business, aviation, diplomacy, media, medicine, and dozens of other economic sectors. Those who speak English have a huge advantage in the global job marketplace, and students will also find English to be very useful while traveling.

The price of taking a course in ESL is different for every institution and program. It is important that students do their research on the costs of the course they are interested in before they decide to enroll.

A course in ESL provides career advantages in many different fields. Students who speak English as a second language will find it useful in international business, the tourism industry, many scientific and technology fields, aviation, and media. In addition, students who speak English fluently may also be able to find work translating or teaching English. Completion of courses may also be required for students who wish to attend English-speaking universities.

If you are interested in taking an ESL course, start looking today. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.

The English Language for Academic Communication (ELAC) program prepares students for study in degree programs in an American university context. Through instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, students learn how to communicate their ideas effectively, interact using academic discourse, and apply their language skills to different situations and audiences for greater understanding and engagement. The ELAC program offers instruction at seven levels of proficiency: low beginner, beginner, elementary, low intermediate, intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced. Each level can be completed in one term of full-time study. Each level includes 140 academic hours of classroom instruction per level, per term. Each term is seven weeks long, and full-time students receive 20 hours of classroom instruction per week. The overall length of the program depends on the student’s initial placement and how quickly the student progresses from one level to the next. -

As you know, the world has changed very suddenly. Due to the spread of Coronavirus, travel has become much more difficult for many people and we are being encouraged by governments and health professionals to minimise social contact. Here at LSI Portsmouth, we take your health and safety very seriously. As a result, we have decided to move our Pre-Sessional courses online during this difficult time. This means that you have the opportunity to prepare for studying at university in the UK from the safety and comfort of your own home! The Pre-Sessional online courses follow exactly the same scheme of work as the face to face course, so it uses the same materials, includes the same assessments and the same number of class contact hours. The only difference is that the classes are conducted online via Zoom (the teleconferencing app). -
