Sound Engineering & Design - FdSc [SSR Manchester] This course involves a partnership between the University of Bolton and SSR Manchester (www.s-s-r.com). Studios are well equipped with analogue and state-of-the-art digital systems, software and IT facilities. The course is delivered fully at SSR in Manchester, but some travel between Bolton and Manchester will be necessary to make use of facilities at both sites. The course includes the fundamentals of sound systems, sound engineering, sound for TV and film, special effects, computer games audio design, electronic music, the scientific principles of sound, studio techniques, live sound and PA systems, sound synthesis and MIDI. A work placement period in the second year provides a useful link into the industry. About the course The course begins with the fundamentals of sound systems, sound design, studio principles and associated professional software taught in a highly hands-on manner. This continues into the second year but with a more in-depth approach to sound engineering concepts. Content will focus on audio post production techniques, Foley and sound effects, live sound, acoustics, synthesis and advanced studio techniques so that you can gain a wider experience of the applications of sound engineering and sound design.
