The objective of the program is to instruct concrete craft skills through substantial production and course work. By the program's end, students will have developed a certain fluency in both the technical aspects of filmmaking and in film language in general. Students enrolled in the semester program are required to follow courses in each of the core modules of screenwriting, editing, cinematography and directing. Students attend classes in sound, camera-related workshops and two elective courses from a menu of courses listed below. Within the first semester, each student directs four film productions while working on an additional 16 - 20 film sets. By the end of the course, students will be competent in: shooting with RED, Canon, Sony High Definition; operating and designing with lights ranging from dedos to 4K HMI, editing with AVID Media Composer systems, color grading, applying graphics and animation using Affer Effects, location sound recording and sound post production. The second year program aims to refine and broaden filmmaking skills through master classes and full-time work on professional film sets. The second year program is also oriented towards training talented students for the production of more substantial projects, including the possibility of a feature-length film or a 90 minute trilogy shot in the second semester that can serve students as a calling card for the future. The first semester of the second year program is driven by master class workshops with visiting filmmakers, course work, consultations and film projects. The semester also incorporates preproduction and preparation for the films which will be shot and edited second semester. The documentary film production program at Prague Film School aims at developing students' story-telling abilities through both intensive practical work and theory and analysis. Narrative techniques are honed through dramaturgy, directing and documentary script development curricula, drawing upon a rich pool of international and historical documentaries crossing themes and genres. Aesthetic, technical and craft skills are inculcated through practical courses covering lighting, cinematography, editing and sound. In the first semester Documentary Production course, students complete numerous shooting assignments designed to develop fluency in film grammar, camera technique, and editing ideology and practice. Lectures, demonstrations, screenings, and analytical exercises provide the foundation for the fieldwork. Acting Technique This practical course explores acting techniques applicable to both theater and film. Students will start with basic ensemble acting exercises and projects, progressively integrating more complex principles. Students will practice approaches to developing a character and analyzing text. Because film is primarily a naturalistic medium, the main emphasis will be grounded in the teachings of Konstantin Stanislavksi and his disciples. Actors will train in the basics of naturalist acting technique such as pursuing an objective, breaking scenes into beats, playing actions, and overcoming obstacles. The course will include a substantial unit on Meisner Technique, which builds the foundation for listening and responding truthfully in character. Screen Acting Craft Acting is both an art and a craft. This course will focus on craft, emphasizing the technical demands of screen acting. Students will learn to calibrate their performances specifically for the camera frame, adjusting for close ups and a wide shots. Since the camera photographs thought, students will develop an active and varying inner monologue, and understand the nuances of acting, thinking and listening with the eyes. Do you want to develop and shoot and finalize your own short film under tutorship, skilled supervision and technical support? Here you are. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION During a three-month period (September-December) selected and highly qualified applicants may create a film or video project within FAMU International’s Special Productions Program. The aim of this program is for advanced filmmakers to complete a film or video project suitable for festival and/or professional presentation. To this end, Special Productions participants work with an individual project supervisor as well as with various mentors from the FAMU faculty. FOR WHOM IS THE PROGRAM DESIGNED? Preference is given to applicants who have already successfully completed any coursework at FAMU, but all students with appropriate educational or professional experience are encouraged to apply. PRODUCTION CONTEXT 
 All projects are produced under the auspices of the FAMU Studio, and include the involvement of a Production Manager provided by FAMU International. Depending on the needs of the student and the project, a skilled Director of Photography, Sound Designer and Editor are also available to assist or collaborate on the project. The budget of the project is included within the course fee. 

 TYPE OF PROJECTS 
Program participants apply directly for the project of their intention: Short Narrative Film Development and Production (16mm film) Participants write and direct a 16mm film, 7 to 12 minutes in length, with Sync sound, shot on location. The project is not limited regarding style, however we particularly welcome contemporary narrative fiction and an author based approach.
