Introduction
This is a course for anyone interested in developing their writing and turning it into a performance. Working with a published poet, musician, and international performer and drawing on the depth and quality of UK spoken word poetry as inspiration from the film, audio, and written word, you will create work to be critiqued and workshopped and ultimately performed in an online gig. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course, you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals, i.e., progression to an advanced-level course.
By the end of this course, you will be able to: Write your own performance material; Create personal performance work that feels crafted, considered, and authentically you; Develop a skillset for writing, editing and performance; Receive and apply professional feedback to your own work; Perform the crafted work at an online gig.
Mode of delivery: online via live stream. We will use Microsoft Teams as our live-stream platform. Working with a published poet, musician, and international performer and drawing on the depth and quality of UK spoken word poetry as inspiration from the film, audio, and written word, you will create work to be critiqued, workshopped, and ultimately performed in an online gig. To ensure you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor. The tutor will also set assessment activities involving student exchange of ideas and student self-assessment for all students.
