Program Description


According to Paul Hersey, managers must manage a wide variety of people. As managers, they must recognize and adapt their leadership style to manage the people who work for them at the moment. This seminar will allow you to evaluate your leadership style, profile your supervisor and/ or colleagues.

* Understanding the concepts of situational leadership and how they influence the behavior of other people.
* Defining the different styles of leadership and knowing the appropriate styles for particular situations.
* Understanding the difference between managing and leading.
* Defining what the effective leadership and followership roles should be.

This seminar will help you understand your strengths relative to the five practices of extraordinary leadership and what you can do to change your behavior to enhance your leadership effectiveness.

Studies have shown that at least 90 percent of all business transactions are conducted by telephone. Telephone effectiveness can win accolades for your organization. The telephone is a vital link between you and the public as well as between you and your co-workers.

* Knowing how and when to use the telephone to get results.
* Improving your telephone speech and adopting appropriate telephone etiquette.
* Learning techniques for answering incoming calls.
* Understanding how to take messages and how to record or summarize conversations.


Organizations exist because one person cannot act alone to accomplish a desired set of tasks. The tasks are too complex, too large, too numerous, or too ambiguous. Several individuals working together can perform the work and achieve desired outcomes. Coordinating a group of individuals requires someone to direct the activities of the others by making specific task assignments. Certain tasks must be executed by some individuals while other individuals perform other tasks. This role of assigning work is one of the central duties of a manager and the process used is called "delegation." This seminar will help you improve your delegation skills and contribute to the effectiveness of your organization.

* Knowing what visual aids are appropriate for your meeting.

* Using the 4 P's to improve meetings.


Time is a precious possession given equally to every person. How you use your time is a vital factor in your productivity. This seminar will help you analyze your present habits, clarify your objectives and priorities, and teach you how to plan for results. You will also learn how to schedule activities, cope with stress, conquer procrastination, and attain personal satisfaction.

Selecting qualified and competent employees is a critical skill for a successful manager. However, it is probably one of the most difficult jobs any manager has to do. This workshop will introduce you to Behavior Description Interviewing, which reaches beyond what a person can do to determine what a person will do in a given situation. The theory of Behavior Description Interviewing is that the best predictor of future performance is past performance in similar circumstances.

* Understanding what a behavioral example is.
* Practicing interviewing skills.
* Understanding why you should not make a hiring decision based upon a gut feeling.
* Identifying ways to improve your hiring practices.


Coaching is not just telling people what to do; it also involves helping them achieve their fullest potential. Successful coaches have to assume a variety of other roles such as mentor, team leader, counselor, listener, facilitator, and director. This session is designed to help you develop the necessary skills to be a successful coach and mentor, and to prepare a plan to put those skills to work.

* Defining the characteristics and roles of a good coach.
* Describing the benefits of coaching.
* Defining solutions to problems of delegation.
* Demonstrating an effective delegation process.
* Evaluating the comments you provide others.
* Learning how to provide positive and corrective feedback.
* Describing and applying the four step coaching model.
* Developing a plan for using the coaching model.


Understanding Performance Management is an important role that a manager

must play. This session will acquaint you with the performance steps and the importance of setting SMART objectives. We will also look a model of Leadership that allows you to adjust your leadership to your followers.

* Learning the performance steps.
* Acknowledging the importance of setting SMART objectives.
* Applying the situational leadership model.


In today’s business environment, it is not enough to do things differently. You must do different things. You need to use the principles of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. The Seven Habits will help you and the people in your organization change the fundamental way you approach your jobs, your relationships, and even your challenges.

In addition, our economy is shifting more and more toward services and technology. Careers have already quit working like they used to do. The world rewards those who catch on to what is happening and who invest energy in finding and seizing opportunities brought about by change.

* Breaking common ineffective behaviors and tendencies.
* Creating high levels of trust.
* Developing strong interdependent relationships.
* Learning to manage your time as well as the stress in your personal and professional life.
* Understanding the impact of these trends upon you and your associates.
* Identifying guidelines for managing your job during radical change.


Managers must make decisions that impact not only their employees but also stakeholders and customers. Understanding the decision making process as well as how to use the basis of power will help managers be more effective. Analyzing and compare the basic theories of motivation as formulated by McGregor, McClelland, Maslow, and Herzberg.

* Studying a work situation and determining the causes of job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction.
* Identifying five steps in a rational procedure for making decisions.
* Analyzing a complex management decision problem, applying decision-making rules, and arriving at a decision.


Change is a part of our very existence. Yet because change often scares individuals, they resist it. People fear change for many reasons such as: tradition, fear of increased responsibility, a low propensity for risk, economic issues, fear of the unknown, and a vested interest in the status quo. Fear of change can cause absenteeism, turnover, and reduced work output. You will learn strategies for managing the resistance to change.

* Explaining why there is resistance to change and the form this resistance often takes.
* Understanding some of the most useful strategies for managing change.
* Comparing and contrasting the traditional and current views toward change.
