Introduction
Course - Pattern Making Sewing The Patternmaking short course is designed to give students the skills to create patterns in a range of different styles to fit various sizes. Students will learn how to create standard ‘block patterns’ and manipulate them to specific size and measurements.The Sewing short course in incorporated to help students produce professionally fitted garments and teach them the ‘tricks of the trade’ to creating beautifully finished garments. Course Leader Farah Jones is a Singapore born fashion designer who has been working in the international fashion industry for over 12 years. She has a first class Honors BA Degree in fashion design from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technolgy (RMIT). Farah’s list of professional accomplishments ranges from designing a wide array of women’s and children’s wear for many new boutiques and large design companies around the world, to managing, buying, marketing and merchandising for retail giants like Esprit, Laura Ashley, Prada, Jean Paul Gaultier and Dolce & Gabbana.Farah was previously employed by Raffes Design Institute (Shanghai), where she taught Fashion Design and Fashion Production courses to up and coming young designers in the industry. She combines her love for fashion and teaching by taking a hands-on approach to her classes, teaching new and innovative concepts to those who want to be part of the enticing fashion world. She is dedicated to teaching her students how to be true fashion professionals.What Will You Learn During the Lessons? Our specialist tutor will teach you about the technicalities of pattern development including how to achieve a range of silhouettes, in skirts, bodices dresses and tailored trousers, as well as creating collars and sleeve variations. Students will be taught to engineer patterns for a range of fabric constraints, manipulate pattern pieces, and be given advice on laying out pattern pieces when cutting fabric.
