English as a Second Language
Intermediate English: This course is designed for students who already have some knowledge of English or who have studied English in the past.
The course focuses on syntax, vocabulary development, pronunciation, as well as academic preparation skills including critical reading, listening comprehension, note-taking, and writing multiple paragraph essays. This course will assist students with the skills needed for university classes.
Advanced English: This course is designed for those who have knowledge of most English language concepts who are working toward fluency.
Classes in the Advanced English course are designed for students to develop competency in the use of advanced grammatical structures, refine their writing skills through writing essays of various forms and develop in-depth practice in English pronunciation. Students will participate in whole class and small group academic discussions. This course is ideal for students who are enrolling in university courses that require critical thinking and writing abilities.
These courses are non-credit courses.
Upon arrival, students will be required to complete a short diagnostic/placement test so they can be placed in a class which is most suitable to their linguistic ability.
