SMART ENGINEERING FOR SMART FACTORIES

Due to variable product families and constantly decreasing product life cycles, previous methods to implement machines, facilities, and processes and operating machines cease to be economic. Rather, an increased front-loading – meaning a deferral of efforts into engineering – must take place in the future. Fortification of digital assembly groups with metadata, virtual figures of facilities and machines as well as methods of simultaneous process protection bear great potential. By means of a continuously available digital chain of planning, new variants can be produced both efficiently and economically.

The course will be completed with an examination.Affiliated to this, successful participants will receive the official RWTH Executive Certificate.... [-]

Communication 4.0: Advancing your Production Network

RWTH International Academy / RWTH Aachen University
Campus 5 days October 2018 Germany Aachen

This course aims at an overview of the basic communication technologies in modern production facilities. The trainers will provide a survey on common theoretical concepts as well as corresponding technologies that implement the concepts – like OPC UA, DDS and RabbitMQ. [+]

Industry 4.0, cyber-physical systems and Internet of Things are much more than just buzz words; they are describing the idea of networked production. Exactly this networked production has processing and analytical capabilities at each node and can exchange information (not just data) between one another. This enables new opportunities for monitoring, optimisation and control, but also requires additional skill to build and maintain such systems. The domain experts, as well as the IT, has to work closely together. Both sides need to understand the idea of the underlying concepts as well as the problems that may arise. The communication technology is the glue, and therefore one of the core technologies required for such modern production systems. Hence, every engineer and IT-specialist who wants to work in such future systems should start to understand these concepts and to use them.... [-]

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a holistic environmental assessment method for goods and services. LCA considers the entire life cycle of these products, from the extraction of raw materials to the final disposal of waste. In addition, LCA takes into account multiple environmental impact categories, such as global warming, fossil depletion, and human toxicity. Due to its holistic scope, LCA developed into a widely accepted tool for environmental assessments in both industry and academia and has been standardised in ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.

This certificate course promotes the use of LCA in practice. The course is targeted at executives in industry and the public sector without previous LCA knowledge. Participants will learn the methodological basics of LCA and acquire the practical skills needed to independently conduct simple LCA studies within their organisations. In addition, participants will learn to interpret LCA results and to use the LCA-based information to improve the environmental profile of both their company-specific supply chains and the processes within their organisation. A special focus lies on carbon capture and utilisation.... [-]

Vehicle Acoustics - NVH

RWTH International Academy / RWTH Aachen University
Campus Full time 5 days October 2018 Germany Aachen

Professional Education Programme giving extensive insight into the topic of vehicle acoustics. [+]

The subject area of acoustics (noise, vibration, harshness) is very important for the development of vehicles. Reasons are, on the one hand, predetermined exterior noise levels issued by the legislator for vehicle registration. Now that the respecitive guidelines have undergone revision, further reductions are pending.

On the other hand, vehicle buyers and owners also display growing demands in terms of vibration and sound comfort. Measuring up to these demands is further impeded by conflicting aims between acoustics and other criteria like the reduction of both CO2 and fuel consumption (efficient engines, downsizing, downspeeding, lightweight construction). Apart from that, the acoustician is faced with entirely different challenges in terms of electric and hybrid vehicles.... [-]
