Program Description

The Certificate of Competence in Food Production and Technology is a competency-based program to create skilled agricultural-food technicians and enhance the skills and knowledge of existing agricultural biotech employees and incumbent workers in other related fields.

The Certificate of Competence in Plant-Food Production and Technology is a credit certification program requiring a total of 9 credits. Select three of the following classes:

  • BOT 105 - Ethnobotany (3 credits)
  • BOT 130 - Plants in Hawaiian Environment (4 credits)
  • BOT 160 - Identification of Tropical Plants (3 credits)
  • BOT 199 - Independent Study (2 -3 credits)
  • AG 120 - Plant Science (3 credits)
  • AG 149 - Plant Propagation (3 credits)
  • AG 152 - Orchid Culture (3 credits)
  • FSHN 185 - Human Nutrition (3 credits)

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older, or
  • Have earned a U.S. high school diploma, GED or equivalency

International Student requirements and information

Submit an application if you are:

  • Not currently enrolled at any of the UH system campuses
  • A first-time college student
  • A returning student (a person who previously attended but is not currently enrolled at any other UH campus)
  • A transfer student (a person who is currently or was previously enrolled at a non-UH institution)
  • Transfer Credit Search - UH System Course Transfer Database
  • An Early Admit or Running Start student (a junior or senior high school student admitted under the Early Admission or Running Start program)
