This course has been designed in conjunction with local employers and provides study options that will enable you to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to fulfill your potential in a supervisory/managerial capacity. You’re offered the opportunity to follow a pathway that is best suited to your interest and career development. You’ll also benefit from course tutors that have extensive industry knowledge and regularly engage in a variety of research and scholarly activity to help inform course content.

FdA Business Management with Enterprise and Marketing

You will learn how to develop marketing plans using relevant marketing tools and theories and make appropriate recommendations. You will also evaluate a range of marketing theories and tools and justify innovation solutions to organisational marketing problems using marketing analysis.

FdA Business Management with Human Resource Management

This Human resource pathway will enable you to evaluate appropriate Human resource systems for the management of an organisation. You will analyse staff the changing role of the HR professional whilst evaluating policies such as training and development, reward system and performance appraisal.

FdA Business Management with Finance

You will learn how to analyse appropriate financial management systems within the management of the organisation. You will also evaluate the financial risks that can face an organisation as well as types of financial risks. The pathway also evaluates corporate governance and the ethical issues in contemporary businesses.

FdA Business Management with Leadership

Within this pathway you will develop tools that will allow you to analyse leadership, management and organisational theories in a globalised world of business. You will also evaluate the relationship between individual personality, leadership and motivation and the effect this has on employee engagement.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject e.g. BTEC National Diploma/ Certificate or GNVQ Advanced /NVQ level 3 or at least 1 GCE ‘A’ Level (or 2 Scottish Highers) at grade D or above.

Applicants over 21 with none of the above but with the appropriate occupational experience may be accepted.

If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS of 5.5 or higher.

Students should hold a minimum of Level 2 in numeracy and literacy.

Course content – year one:

Personal and Professional Development 1, Work-Based Learning 1, The Contemporary Business Environment, Managing Business Organisations, Finance Fundamentals.

Optional module: Human Resource Management, Marketing Essentials, Management Accounting and Principles of Management.

Course content – year two:

Personal and Professional Development 2, Work-Based Learning 2, Operations and Quality Management, Leadership, Innovation and Change.

Optional module: Employment Law, Employee Relations, Human Resource Development, International Marketing, E-marketing, Accounting Systems and Auditing, Financial Reporting, European Business, Leading People and Teams, Contemporary Issues in Leadership and Management, Project Management or Marketing Planning.

Professional placements

Work placements are an integral part of this course and are supported through our dedicated work placement team. We offer you the opportunity to pursue your own interests in specialist areas with live projects via our strong employer links.

Learning and assessment

The course contains a number of learning and teaching strategies including new theories and models. Frameworks will be presented and discovered through formal lectures, directed reading and peer learning. Assessment methods include practical activities, role play, delivering presentations, timed tests, preparation of business plans, written reports and a work-based learning project.

Career and progression opportunities

This course will open a wide range of opportunities to embark on a career in a supervisory or managerial capacity in the public and private sector. Academic progression is also available through our one-year BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-Up) which includes five pathways of Enterprise and Marketing, Business Management, Human Resources, Leadership, and Finance.
