What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?
The focus of AQA AS Business is on small to medium-sized businesses operating within national markets. It covers the issues involved in a business start-up, such as research and planning, as well as the factors that determine success. It considers how established businesses might improve their effectiveness by making tactical decisions throughout the business. A Level Business builds on the AS units by considering more complex business scenarios and focusing on strategy.
The course will be taught by the use of small group work, self-directed research and presentation, class discussion and lectures. All units taught in year one are assessed across two papers at the end of the year. Paper 1 is assessed through multiple choice questions, short answer questions and mini case study data response questions. Paper 2 is assessed by short answer questions and the use of a case study for data response questions. There is no course work option.
What topics will I study?
During the first year students will study six units, including 'What is Business?', 'Managers, leadership and decision making', 'Decision making to improve marketing, operations, finance and human resources'. During the second year students will study strategic decision making which will build on the functional areas from year one.
What experiences will I get?
You will have opportunities to take part in business challenge competitions.
