buenos aires

Overview

12 credits. 12 weeks. $12,000. Because Buenos Aires is in such a great time of transition, now is the time to study abroad here and witness this change first-hand. Buenos Aires isn’t just the capital city of Argentina, it’s also the financial, industrial, and commercial hub of the country. As a growing global city, Buenos Aires also has one of the continent’s busiest ports in South America, is an UNESCO City of Design because of its fashion influence, and is a major tourist destination in Latin America. Designed for Business and International Relations students, this program allows you to learn about the contemporary politics and business in Latin America, as well as Argentina’s relationships with other Latin American countries and the world. You’ll also gain the tools you need to become a global leader, with courses like Leading Across Cultures and Managing Behavior in Organizations. All courses are taught in English. Buenos Aires will also be your classroom while witnessing the city’s rich European influences. Explore El Centro, the city center, which is home to several of the most important sights in Buenos Aires, including the gorgeous Teatro Colon (one of the best opera houses in the world), as well as the beautiful Plaza de Mayo. The Plaza de Mayo is surrounded by the Casa Rosada (the presidential home), the Cabildo (the old town hall), the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Congress Building, and much more. Wander around Buenos Aires’ many eclectic neighborhoods, like La Boca, San Telmo, and Recoleta, to see how the Argentineans live. And enjoy our many free events in and around the city to learn about the city’s great people and their culture. We want you to feel at home in Buenos Aires, so we do everything we can to help you integrate into life in the city. From housing to cultural events, our job is to make sure you have the most authentic study abroad experience possible.

Housing

We want to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding which landmarks to see first or discovering the best café—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Buenos Aires, it will feel like home. Homestays - Live in a centrally-located homestay with local residents. This is a great option if you’d like to improve your language fluency and immerse yourself in the local culture. Twelve meals are provided per week.

Student Life

Orientation The program begins with an orientation that introduces you to our Buenos Aires staff, your fellow students, and the city of Buenos Aires. Topics such as academics, housing, transportation, and health and safety are covered. Language instruction and an introduction to colloquial Spanish in Argentina are additional components of the orientation. You will also receive academic advising and will register for IES Abroad and partner university courses. Additionally, CORE™, IES Abroad’s Comprehensive Orientation & Re-entry Experience, begins during orientation and continues throughout the semester with activities focusing on cultural adjustment, goal achievement, and preparing for the return home. Extracurricular Activities & Cultural Events Redefine the way you live and learn in Buenos Aires through our cultural events and activities, such as:
