Typically taking two years to complete, an Associate of Science requires that students enroll in general education courses in addition to science-related electives. Admission is competitive. The Digital Media Technology program requires a separate application beyond initial acceptance to Santa Fe College.
Admission is based on faculty rankings of the departmental applications. It is not a requirement that students complete their General Education requirements before applying for admission to Digital Media Technology but we strongly recommend that applicants take classes in the Fine Arts Department before being admitted to Digital Media. Some of these classes may also cover some of their General Education requirements (please contact our department for more information about classes we recommend). The Digital Media Technology Program at Polk State College provides students with a strong foundation in digital media that empowers them to adapt and respond to changing trends in web technologies, graphic design, and audiovisual communication. This program allows students to engage in practical, hands-on, realistic projects using the latest technologies, software, and equipment to produce cutting-edge projects that communicate effectively and persuasively.
Students in the program learn digital media skills and techniques necessary for success. The courses offered represent a comprehensive curriculum that explores artistry, creativity, theories of good design, universal principles, balance, symmetry, lighting, composition, and visual and aesthetic appeal. Students learn communication formats, effective messaging, audiovisual communication, storytelling, interactivity, usability, interface design, marketing concerns, and business principles. Targeted projects and extensive training allows students to increase expertise and improve technical skills for web development, video production, and graphic design. The course curriculum trains participants to work effectively within a team, cope under pressure, communicate well, improve soft skills, and use creative problem solving to exceed the needs of clients or any organization that hires them.
The program offers a 27-credit-hour core and three specializations in Web Production, Graphic Design, and Video Production. Each specialization offers 18-credit hours of course work designed to produce highly-skilled graduates equipped with the necessary expertise to employ multimedia technologies to create desired products and experiences. Additionally, students enroll in 18 credit hours of general education courses including Mathematics, English Composition, Humanities, Social Science, Natural Science and Health.

The Associate in Science Degree in Digital Media / Multimedia Technology prepares students for careers in digital graphic design. College Credit Certificates
The following are short-term programs that can be completed in one year or less. They are designed to equip students with a skill set for immediate employment or job advancement. All are included in the related Associate in Science Digital Media/Multimedia Technology Degree program and can be used as building blocks toward completing that degree. Each of the certificates is 12 or 15 credit hours comprised of a 6 credit hour program core with additional 6 or 9 credit hours of specialized coursework.
