Students who are unsure about what they want to study or are not ready to jump into a four-year degree may want to pursue an associate degree. This program provides students with basic knowledge in particular subjects and normally takes two years to complete.

What is an associate degree in social sciences? This curriculum is designed for students interested in learning about how individuals and groups relate to each other within society. Every program will differ, but students typically learn how to analyze complex social issues and work towards practical solutions, as well as learn about the standards and ethical principles of working as a social scientist. They develop creative and critical-thinking skills, learn how to communicate effectively and advance their understanding of different cultures and racial groups. Classes may include diversity awareness, research methods, cultural anthropology and sociology.

There are numerous benefits for students who pursue this educational path. The skills learned can increase employment opportunities as well as help students navigate social situations in both their personal and professional lives.
