Top Associate Degrees in Engineering Studies

Those with an associate’s degree in engineering have more than just valuable skills that are sought after in the labor market. They are also prepared to manage the basic cultural tools that shape modern society.

What is an associate’s degree in the field of engineering studies? Most of these degrees are two-year programs that focus on understanding and troubleshooting problems with technological devices. These programs allow students to acquire a broad set of technical skills that can be applied to many different industries. Students gain an understanding of the practical applications of engineering tools and techniques. Areas of study include electronics, computer programming, computer aided design, and networks.

Graduates have learned how to maintain and repair equipment. Through classroom lectures and lab exercises, their problem solving and practical analytical reasoning abilities are reinforced. Students also develop verbal and written communication skills that are needed to follow work instructions and read engineering drawings. The use of standard safety equipment and best practices in the work environment are also taught.

The cost of an associate’s degree in engineering will depend on the institution. Tuition and fees can be determined by contacting a university’s admissions department. Most programs will require at least two full years of study to complete. Students should be prepared to provide for their own housing and living expenses.

High tech industries that depend on machinery and devices need the skills graduates provide. In manufacturing, graduates find employment as test engineer technicians, quality engineers and manufacturing technicians. Hospitals depend on those who can maintain and repair their medical equipment, and firms that specialize in communications technology need employees capable of working with computers and network gear.

It is important to consider all of the options available for earning an associate’s degree, and now is the time to gather all of the information possible. Working students and those living in other countries may find that the flexible schedule offered by online coursework suits their needs. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.

Engineering Program

Snow College continues to offer the Associate of Pre-Engineering (APE) degree to students who plan to transfer to a university and pursue a baccalaureate degree in any of the traditional fields of engineering. This two-year degree requires an emphasis of coursework in engineering, mathematics, and physical science, with fewer general education requirements than the Associate of Science (AS) or the Associate of Arts (AA) degree. It is anticipated that a student will also earn an AS degree while at Snow College, but additional coursework will be needed to complete the balance of general education requirements for that degree.

Outcomes

Students who complete an emphasis in engineering at Snow College will be expected to demonstrate that they have a working knowledge of the theories and principles of physics in the areas of Newtonian mechanics, gravitation, electricity and magnetism, wave motion and physical optics; are acquainted with standard methods of mathematical analysis including trigonometry and analytic geometry, differential and integral calculus, matrices and linear algebra, and the solutions to differential equations; understand the role of chemistry in our physical and biological environment as it pertains to atomic and molecular structure, the laws of thermodynamics and how energy is exchanged between systems; can work effectively in a group to accomplish an objective, and make a significant contribution to its outcome; can combine the knowledge of physics and chemistry, together with the analytical skills of mathematics to find solutions to technical problems that benefit society; can use the computer to store and... Industrial maintenance technologists have only one goal: that the equipment works at its best. They work upstream, that is to say they intervene to prevent problems by setting up maintenance and control guides, they help to train other employees, they are valuable assets during the training. design and installation of equipment and are always looking for opportunities to improve material performance .

Of course, they can also provide diagnostics for breaks or breakdowns because they are extremely versatile , but after that they will be sure to provide advice and improvement strategies. And their versatility has no limit: hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, automation, mechanics, electricity, computers, robotics ... nothing is to their test!... [-]

About the Program

Wallace State Community College’s Engineering Technology program provides a pathway to give you opportunities to see exactly where you fit in the engineering world. There are many career options for those interested in a degree in engineering technology. There are careers where your office is the site of a new road, bridge, building, utility installation, or other major infrastructure projects. There are careers where you work in the comfort of an air-conditioned office.

Engineering technicians prepare technical drawings and plans used by production and construction workers to build everything from manufactured products such as toys, toasters, industrial machinery, and spacecraft to structures such as houses, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines. Engineering technicians’ drawings provide visual guidelines, show the technical details of the products and structures, and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures. Most engineering technicians use computer-aided design (CAD) systems to prepare drawings.... [-]

Overview

Engineering is a profession that integrates science and mathematics with design and laboratory study. It is and will continue to be the profession upon which the United States depends for its growth and ability to compete in world markets.

“Engineering offers more career options than any other discipline. It’s a profession that can take you from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space, from within the microscopic structures of the human cell to the top of the tallest skyscrapers. Whether it’s cell phones, digital cameras, DVDs, or facial recognition devices that can pick out a terrorist in a crowded football stadium, engineers are behind almost all of today’s exciting technology. Engineers are problem solvers who search for quicker, better, and less expensive ways to use the forces and materials of nature to meet today’s challenges.”1... [-]

The Associate of Science (AS) Marine Biology Emphasis is designed for students who intend to transfer to the University of Oregon (UO) and complete their degree at Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB), majoring in marine biology. The background offered by this major, however, is entirely appropriate for preparation for upper division emphasis in other professional fields like medical, dental, or veterinary school. This AS degree, as presented, also satisfies the requirements for an AA/OT for ease of transfer to UO. By completing general education requirements for the AA/OT, as well as the recommended science courses, students will be able transfer to UO and complete a BS in Marine Biology or a BS in Biology with Marine Biology Emphasis. Career options for marine biology graduates include jobs in state and federal government, advanced training for research and teaching in the marine sciences, and most other careers available to broadly trained biologists. The following program outline is one of many possible course configurations that would satisfy the requirements for an AS Marine Biology Emphasis and AA/OT transfer degree and also fulfill basic requirements for graduation from UO. Each student should meet with an advisor to determine appropriate sequence of courses to be taken, depending on placement scores, transfer credits, and other factors. Upon completion of an AS Marine Biology Emphasis (and AA/OT) and transfer to UO, additional courses need to be taken at the Eugene campus. These courses include organic chemistry CH331 and CH335, BI214, and physics (unless it was taken... [-]
