Arts

An Associate Degree in Arts (AA) is a good entry-level community college program that generally takes around two years to complete. This degree is earned in the humanities, social science and business fields.

What is an Associate Degree in Arts? Many programs for this degree are specialized for specific fields. You could earn an AA degree to find work as a respiratory therapist, a licensed practical nurse or a paralegal. The classes offered will depend on the program, but you will probably take entry English, math and history classes.

This program benefits you by giving you the skills to enter the workforce quickly, without needing to go through a full four-year college program. It’s not a long commitment, and some of the credits will transfer to a bachelor’s degree if you decide to go to a university. Many programs understand that people are still working while updating their skills, so they offer flexible classes and time frames.

The cost of an Associate Degree in Arts will vary by institution, but many community and technical colleges are much less expensive than their university counterparts. Check out the costs of the particular schools you’re looking at; there may be financial assistance available to you as well.

An associate degree provides you the opportunity to go beyond an entry-level position. You will have more specialized technical skills in the industry of your degree. Many dental hygienists or assistant physical therapists have an AA in their field. In business, having your degree shows that you have taken classes to improve your communication and professionalism, which gives you an edge over other applicants.

There are a lot of community and technical colleges that offer an Associate Degree in Arts. You may even find online programs, which will give you even more options. AA degrees are very popular for young people starting their education.
