Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology - Electrical

This program provides you with the skills to design and validate/evaluate electrical equipment and systems, and provides technical advice/sales.

You will gain skills and knowledge in electrical design, programmable logic controllers, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, PLC networking and motor control to work in the electrical industry at a technician and para-professional level.

Program structure

The program is a blend of practical experience with electrical and control applications built on a strong theoretical foundation.

You’ll achieve competencies in testing, assembly, installation and maintenance of electrical and automation control. You’ll gain skills in operating a wide range of automated equipment and systems; manage risk; develop and manage maintenance programs; and provide technical advice. You’ll develop knowledge and skills in electrical control systems including programmable logic controllers structured in an industry-based network called Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA); electrical design; motor control; computer programming; and software applications.

The program offers a specialised articulation stream if you aspire to undertake a degree.

The qualification is structured to deliver competencies, knowledge and skills required by the nationally accredited Electrotechnology Training Package.

Program entry requirements

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 50%.

Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary Diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.

English language requirements

To study this program you will need to complete the Academic IELTS with an overall band of 5.5 and no individual band below 5.0.
