Introduction
The Addiction Counseling program is designed for career opportunities in entry-level positions in the field of Addiction Counseling. The program articulates with Metropolitan State University's Baccalaureate degree in Alcohol and Drug Counseling.
After completing Century's Associate in Science degree in Addiction Counseling, you can apply for a temporary permit to practise alcohol and drug counselling while working under the direct supervision of a licensed counsellor and enrol in course work to complete a bachelor's degree for a maximum of five years. An alcohol and drug counsellor technician (a non-licensed position) may perform: screening to determine appropriateness and eligibility for the program, intake interviews, orientation describing the general nature and goals of the program, rules, services, treatment cost, and client rights.
At the end of this program, students will be able to:
Implement the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of Professional Practice of addiction counseling according to TAP 21.
Apply the established diagnostic criteria for substance use disorder and describe treatment modalities and placement criteria within the care continuum.
Apply laws, rules, and ethical guidelines related to the State of Minnesota and the addiction profession.
Apply a variety of models and theories of addiction and other problems related to substance use.
Determine the clients' readiness for treatment and change as well as the needs of others involved in current situations
