Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Care & Youth Work)

This course offers a route into Higher Education for a Youth, Community, Social Work or Social Sciences profession.

The objective of the course is to provide a supportive and friendly environment to enable you to develop your potential and to prepare you for university study.

Entry requirements

No formal academic qualifications are required, but a good standard of literacy and numeracy is essential. You will need to be aged 19 years or over in the September that you start the course and have at least one year's experience in this field.

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

What will I study?

You will study vocational subjects related to your course such as Theories & Values of Social Work, Psychology, Sociology and Counselling, in addition to literacy, study skills and numeracy.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by tutors throughout your course. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. You will be required to sit short examinations throughout the course.

Career Opportunities and Progression

After successful completion of this course, you will be able to apply for a wide range of Social Science Degrees, which may include Social Work.
