For serious learners who wish to learn how to produce top quality electronic music in class sizes of no more than six people. You will benefit by learning professional techniques from the best DJs and electronic music producers in the business, including Grammy-winners. With opportunities to record and release tracks, undertake remix projects and create music for media such as adverts and computer games, you gain valuable job skills to give you the best chance of employment after your course. Our Extended Diploma carries up to 420 UCAS points which is equivalent to three A* grades at A Level. With homework and 360 hours of class time, with strategically placed mentoring sessions; you will write, produce, engineer, mix, master, and learn how to release and promote your very own 4-track EP. An iMac loaded with all the software required is provided and its use in session time is included in the course fee, but we do advise that learners bring in their own laptops for sessions if they can. We are an official Ableton Certified Training Centre, and all GMP learners qualify for a 40% EDU discount for Ableton Live 9 software. Introduction to Production with Ableton Live 9 You will get to grips with this revolutionary DAW in your first module, with Ableton Live being the nerve centre of your creativity. Through our hands-on instruction, you will discover the key concepts that Ableton Live offers, including the session and arrangement windows, clips, scenes, and warping. All GMP learners worldwide qualify for a 40% discount, and you’ll always be able to refresh yourself with free access to all of our free intro and paid advanced online Ableton tutorials on Youtube during, and after you finish your program. Music Foundations Overlooked by many, but so useful in the long run, our electronic music composition section will save you hours of ‘hitting and hoping’! We will provide you with tools that show which chords go well together for your style and show you how to program chords that ‘work’, bass-lines that groove and lead-lines that are catchy. We’ve had classically trained learners do this section of our program come away saying they gained a lot from our methods. Audio Engineering Another overlooked area by DJs and dance music producers is the science of audio engineering. Some would say it’s dull, but it’s easier to build something great if the foundation is solid. Logic Pro X Many electronic music producers us Logic Pro X to produce music in the later stages of production for its ‘sound’, or for all stages of production. This is why we have included it in our diploma. With our in-house Grammy-winner being a fan of Logic, it’s safe to say that you will be in good hands learning how top-notch producers use Logic in their productions. Mixing & Mastering First, we step out of what you would learn as a professional engineer by covering acoustics and how to set up your home studio environment correctly. Then it’s on to the fun stuff: in-depth EQ, filling the frequency spectrum, dynamic controllers, mixing vocals, how to make just a few elements sound huge. Electronic Sound Design Many pro electronic music producers do not get past subtractive synthesis in their entire career, but you will cover subtractive, wavetable, granular, additive and frequency modulated synthesis. They’ll also be sampling, resampling, glitch tips and more advanced beat-making techniques in this section as you develop your sound. We have a relationship with Umlaut Audio; they need more sound designers and want to hear our learners’ work. There’s a sub-section on this area of sound design in the program and make introductions if our learners’ work is suitable. Advanced Ableton & Synthesis By this point in the program you’ll have gone further than many professional producers with your sound design skills. We take it much further and introducing you to additive, granular, wavetable synthesis, and Max4live devices. You’ll also cover advanced sampling, advanced warping and Racks & Chains. At the end of the module you will learn how to apply your music for media (film and TV). Live Performance You will focus on getting your projects finished taking advantage of bespoke tips and advice in a concentrated blast of mentoring sessions. You’ll also be introduced to Ableton Live for performance by understanding how to take tracks to the stage and perform them Live for yourself and for other artists if that’s a route that interests you. Also, you’ll learn advanced MIDI techniques for every live scenario available today. Music Business To finish off the program, you’ll learn how to create an effective EPK, market and brand yourself, negotiate deals, get genuine social media followers, and get the most out of digital distribution. Field Trips Rather than having a classroom kitted out with what a recording studio would have in it, we take you to a fully commercial Miloco recording studio in London, so you could be learning how signal flow works on a Neve console while Florence and the Machine or Blur are recording their album in the room next door! We also visit where it all began for the school, The Briggs Warehouse, where you will get to play and program in a room full of old analogue synths and toys to find some real analogue sounds for your tracks. Recent artists in our old studio include Soul Clap, Robert Owens and Rui da Silva. 360 hours | £4999 20 weeks non-stop | Tues, Weds, Thurs | 11am – 6pm Start: August 2nd Academic Year | Three 10-week semesters | Thurs & Fri | 11am – 6pm Start: Third Thurs of September | 2: Second Thurs of January | 3: Last Thurs of April Evenings | Six 10-week semesters | Mon & Tues | 7.30pm – 10.30pm Start: Third Mon of September | 2: Second Mon of January | 3: Last Weds of April (x 2) [-]

Music Foundation & Composition Full of contemporary record production tips and techniques and knowledge you need to put together your own commercial (pop, rock, urban, singer/songwriter and commercial dance) backing track fit for A&R meetings and production music houses. From programming bass-lines, strings, basic synthesis, sculpting organic sounds, vocal & song arranging, getting the right sounds, and putting it all together to make your track sound as one and ready for a master mix. Hit Top-Line Songwriting Have you ever wondered why the songs that you write are okay but don’t sound like hits? Have you read songwriting books and watched tutorials on Youtube without them actually making any difference? This top-line songwriting module tells you what other sources either don’t know or don’t want to give away-the concepts shared here are designed to finally bring the hit songwriter out in you! Sound Engineering & Producing Vocals In our Sound Engineering module you will master the art of recording common instruments including guitar, bass, piano and synths. Yes, there is an art to recording synths! The vocal production section is not particularly aimed at singers, but at songwriters and producers. Because even if we don’t sing ourselves, we still need to be able to encourage, coach and produce artists and session vocalists, and the more we know about singing, vocal production and recording vocals, the better the main part of our song-the lead vocal-is going to sound! Of course even though we cover vocal technique, actual singing in class is not mandatory — it is ok to just listen! Logic Pro X By the end of this module, you’ll be zipping around Logic Pro X like a pro, getting to grips with advanced features like Flexpitch, MIDI FX, chopping up loops and making them your own in the EXS24, alongside learning all about all the fabulous built-in sounds and FX now included in this fully comprehensive digital audio workstation. Many contemporary producers prefer Logic for the ‘sound’, and you can use both Ableton and Logic together so you get the best of both worlds. Mixing & Mastering First, we step out of what you would learn as a professional engineer by covering acoustics and how to set up your home studio environment correctly. Then it’s on to the fun stuff: in-depth EQ, filling the frequency spectrum, dynamic controllers, mixing vocals, how to make just a few elements sound huge, and making all your parts sound as one exploring all the new amazing plugins in the latest Native Instruments Komplete bundle. As you learn these mixing techniques, you will be shown how they apply within electronic music. Sound Design & Production Many pro music producers do not get past subtractive synthesis in their entire career, but you will cover subtractive, wavetable, granular, additive and frequency modulated synthesis all using Logic Pro X’s built in arsenal of synths. They’ll also be sampling, resampling, glitch, and more advanced beat-making techniques in this section as you develop your sound. Music Business Introduction-the music business yesterday, today, and the future, rights & societies, lawyers & managers, record companies and publishers. Synchronisation & licensing, D.I.Y. Tools, selling your music, how to get noticed and knocking on doors. Music Producer This module explores the roles of the music producer and brings together the many individual components, skills and concepts from all of the stages, from pre-production to completion and delivery of the final version. We focus on concepts such as creating emotion through sound and performance, visualising and defining the direction of the production and achieving your production goal. By understanding the essential concepts of music production, the arrangement of both musical notes and the ‘sonic field’. You learn how to make your band or solo artist (this could be yourself) both unique and compelling to get the very best out of your act. Field Trips Rather than having a classroom kitted out with what a recording studio would have in it, we take you to a fully commercial Miloco recording studio in London, so you could be learning how signal flow works on a Neve console while Florence and the Machine or Blur are recording their album in the room next door!
