Introduction

For 50 years, Boston College has been providing high quality further education to thousands of students.

Where are we?

The College is situated close to the town centre of Boston with three campuses in close proximity to each other. At our main campus - Rochford, you will find our dedicated sixth form centre and university centre along with workshops and industry styled classrooms of our vocational courses. Peter Paine is our Sports and Performing Arts centre and Sam Newsom is our dedicated Music centre.

Our Courses

The College provides over 400 courses, up to and including degree level, including a wide range of vocational training courses as well as A/AS levels, GCSEs and diplomas. Whatever your age, you can choose something that will expand your horizons and give you the confidence to succeed.

Our Students

Every year, the College welcomes some 8,000 students through its doors. About 1,500 of these study with us full-time, up to 200 are International students from across the globe and 200 more are studying at a Higher Education level. Our part-time students vary from school leavers and apprentices to adult learners and degree students.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND provides greater breadth and specialisation than the Level 4 HNC. The structure of the programme provides an innovative and creative curriculum, covering core areas such as the business environment, business communication and information, marketing and human resources – all fundamental to the success of business organisations. What will I do? The Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND is made up of 16 units: eight mandatory and eight specialist units. The mandatory units include: - The business environment - Managing financial resources and decisions - Organisations and behaviour - Marketing principles Specialist units could include: - Project management Entry Qualifications Business BTEC HNC Certificate Level 4 or a related HNC qualification. You will also need to have a Level 2 qualification or above in English and Maths (e.g. GCSE or Functional Skills) and/or minimum IELTS score 6. Where could it lead? The BTEC HNC and HND qualifications are highly valued by employers and can lead to careers in business specialisms such as finance, human resources, management or marketing, as well as other business related careers. The qualifications also offer a progression route to the professional qualifications offered by organisations like the Chartered Institute of Marketing, management accountants and personnel development. A key progression path for Edexcel BTEC HNC and HND learners is to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree programme depending on the degree in question. [-]

We offer courses from September through to June. You can attend for 2 weeks or for a whole academic year (34 weeks). You will study English for 20 hours a week, plus we have modern facilities and friendly and experienced staff. What better place to learn English than in England - the home of the English language! Many students choose to study English in England because they believe it gives them the best possible start to acquiring the language skills needed, both for university and the international jobs market of the future. At Boston College, you can What will I do? You have two options: - Either to study English as a full-time course, or - Combine English with other subjects. For example, you could take English with Economics or Film Studies or Sport or Media. If you are here for longer than 6 months we can enter you for the Cambridge IGCSE English (Second Language) examination depending on your level. You will be part of a group of students with a maximum of 16 in a class. A typical week would involve 20 hours per week in the classroom but to make the fastest progress a lot of extra practice is needed in the Learning Resource Centre or at home. This Access to Business Studies programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking a career in the Business and Marketing, Law, Computing, or Finance fields. This course is available in Boston. Successful completion of the course could also lead to progress onto the College's University Level courses. You could study the HNC/HND in Business, Travel and Tourism Management on your doorstep and at up to half the cost of university fees. What will I do? The Diploma is gained by achieving 24 Level 3 credits in Business. You will also choose 2 more main subjects to gain 15 credits. These subjects included Law, Maths and Computing. Alongside these 3 main subjects you must also gain 3 Level 3 credits in Study Skills: Research and Referencing and 3 Level 3 credits in IT for Academic Purposes. Entry Qualifications Whilst it is an advantage that you have a full Level 2 qualification prior to entry on the course, the only requirement is that you hold at least a minimum of GCSE grade C, and a grade D in English and Maths (equivalent qualifications may also be accepted e.g. Functional Skills Level 2) Where could it lead? You could study the HNC/HND in Applied Science or Computing Systems and Development on your doorstep and at up to half the cost of university fees. What will I do? The Diploma is gained by achieving 18 Level 3 credits in 3 main subjects. You can choose these from the following subjects, Biology, Physics, Maths, Chemistry or Computing.
