Simulation Based Engineering / Computer Aided Engineering (CAE)

yilSimulation based engineering is the consistent use of simulation throughout the product development process - from initial analysis of the first concept ideas to the continuous review and improvement of product properties in various stages of development until the optimization of machine processing or other alternative studies. The use of FEM (finite element method) or CFD (computational fluid dynamics) began several years ago, especially in the aerospace sector, the automotive industry and in civil engineering, so nowadays the methods have been established in almost all industrial sectors as well as in other applications such as medicine. Current methods make it possible to simulate entire systems and to examine complete products in realistic high-pressure scenarios in advance.

Simulations help us gain a holistic understanding of the product and answer a key question: Can the product fulfill what it promised to the customer?

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is the key to successful product innovation in numerous industry branches: increasing the efficiency of pumps and turbines, the cooling of electrical machines or microchips, the reduction of fuel consumption of vehicles. Performing a CFD simulation is no longer a challenge; however, to draw the right conclusions from the results more than ever. This is what the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) Computational Fluid Dynamics provides: comprehensive expertise for the successful application - scientifically sound and practically oriented. Program Overview Since 2016, the CAS in Computational Fluid Dynamics has been offered at the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil in Switzerland. Where appropriate, courses can also be combined with modules from the master’s course offerings on the TH Ingolstadt and HAW Landshut to complete a master's degree. Since the study is supervised individually, it also takes into account the interests of newcomers as well as experienced professionals who wish to transfer from related fields of expertise. Thus, the offer is also open to professionals who have been contemplating a diploma, bachelor's, master's or even a doctoral degree. Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) The CAS “Computational Fluid Dynamics” is a module concept, that takes six months to complete and contains 15 ECTS-credits total. Every module ends with an exam. Sequence of Study The study is divided into classroom and self-study phases. The residential phase includes lectures, seminar-like classes and practical exercises. The 20 days of attendance are divided into several blocks, where you can expect two to three consecutive days of teaching (e.g. Thu, Fri, Sat). In addition, you should allow about 10 hours of self-study per week. Curriculum The CAS "Computational Fluid Dynamics" consists of three modules: CFD in Practice Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer Mathematics and Computational Methods You will acquire in-depth, hands-on knowledge of the simulation of fluid tasks and get deeper insight into the physical principles of fluid mechanics and mathematical and numerical methods. Study Fees The expected costs are 9.500 CHF, excluding any travel, board and accommodation costs. HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil The HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil is a member of the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (FHO) that is supported by the three cantons St. Gallen, Schwyz and Glarus. It educates approximately 1,500 bachelor and master’s students in the fields of Technology & IT and architecture, civil engineering, and planning. In the application-oriented research and development (aF&E), the HSR pursues the active transfer of technology and knowledge. An optimal infrastructure ensures excellent accessibility to the campus, which has direct access to the public transportation station. From here, the Zurich, St. Gallen and Winterthur airports are very convenient, taking less than an hour to reach by train. When a study break is needed, students can enjoy the magnificent nature, lying on the shore of Lake Zurich without even leaving campus. A walk through the historic old town, with its famous castle Rapperswil, or a trip into the surrounding mountains is also worthwhile. [-]
