Students in this program will develop their knowledge and professional skills in areas such as child development and best practices in early childhood; the early childhood educator's role and responsibilities; the importance of play in children's learning; family involvement and curriculum design and implementation. When the student graduates they will have the knowledge and necessary skills to work with children, families and community in the context of early learning and development programs for children from birth to age 12. The student will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including child care centres, early learning and parenting centres, Best Start programs, before and after school programs and with school boards. This two-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate is designed for university and college graduates who are seeking a career in the hospitality and tourism industry in the Canadian or North American hospitality industry. This program will provide instruction in the regulations and standards of practice that govern the Canadian hospitality industry including food handling protocols, health and safety regulations, labour laws, and financial practices and procedures. Students will receive training and work experience in a Canadian hospitality service environment. The curriculum will focus on applied knowledge in the field of hospitality operations with emphasis on guest service, operations management, financial management and accounting, human resource management, and information systems. Students will develop their practical skills through the use of both manual and computerized front office systems and by serving and supervising in our fine dining restaurant Saffrons and quick service delicatessen Olive Oyles. Students will develop the critical thinking, multitasking, and problem-solving skills necessary to manage the operational needs of businesses of varying size and complexity. They will also enhance their leadership and customer services skills and develop strategies for supervising and motivating a team of employees in a Canadian hospitality workplace. The program will provide a broad understanding of security concepts and concentrate on industry best practices for information security. You will gain the knowledge required to manage both the strategic and operational aspects of information security, and develop the skills to identify vulnerabilities to business implementing effective safeguards to minimize risks to acceptable levels. During the year, you will learn detailed practical aspects of security such as risk analysis, vulnerability testing, writing security policies, implementing access controls, and performing security audits. Graduates would obtain positions such as security analysts, chief security officer, information security auditor, network security analyst, IT technical security specialist, and threat-risk/vulnerability security specialist. * Classes are delivered online and face-to-face on campus. This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate (completed in two semesters) is designed for university and college graduates seeking a career in the operations management sector. Graduates are involved in decision making related to planning, operating, and control within a business or organization. The curriculum will focus on applied knowledge in the field of business operations within a global economy, encompassing the planning and management of all operations (e.g., supply chain elements, purchasing, production and operations planning and control, transportation and distribution, project planning, quality assurance) involved in businesses of varying size and complexity. Learning activities support the development of supervisory and teamwork skills. Graduates are familiar with the use of information and manufacturing technology. Candidates who are considering this program should be aware that they will need to enjoy working with people, and solving problems. To be successful in this field they will need to acquire human relations and interpersonal skills, and learn to work under pressure when responding to diverse business situations. Graduates who meet these learning outcomes will have the skills and flexibility to apply their knowledge in a variety of leadership and supervisory positions in the service sector, in manufacturing, or in government. They may be employed in supply chain management, production analysis, project management, materials planning, inventory management, purchasing, value analysis, and quality assurance. In order to maintain competence and function effectively within the materials and operations management field, the graduate must be committed to continued professional development. Students will gain the in-depth knowledge, competencies, skills, tools, and techniques required to plan and execute major projects that achieve organizational goals on time and on budget. The Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge is an integral part of the program curriculum. The curriculum also addresses emerging trends in project management through courses in agile project management, project recovery and project leadership.
