Our program is certified by the Languages Canada Quality Assurance Scheme, recognizing the quality of our program administration and management, student services, teacher qualifications, curriculum, physical resources, and student admissions. Small, interactive, and engaging classes Experienced instructors Flexible course options including full-time study, part-time skill specific development, and preparation programs for further academic study Enhanced skills for the workplace Flexible registration - from four months to one year The International ELL is a full-time program that offers intensive academic language courses that are outcomes-based and learner-centered. The classes focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Skills are developed through a range of contemporary themes, topics, and activities. PROGRAM LENGTH From 4 months to 1 year ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Students enrolled in the International ELL program are required to take the placement test and participate in the orientation for new students. These sessions take place the week prior to the start of classes and require the students to participate at BVC campus for two days. Applicants to the program are assumed to have at least an intermediate level of English language proficiency. Students are assessed and placed according to their language proficiency into one of the four courses in the program. International English Language Learning 1 International English Language Learning 2 Academic English 1 Academic English 2 For applicants with lower than intermediate proficiency, we offer a 15-week Basic English Language course. TRANSFERABILITY Students who successfully complete Academic English 1 with a grade of ”B“ or higher meet the language proficiency requirement for Bow Valley College’s Early Learning and Child Care program and Disability Studies program, or can proceed to the Academic English 2 level. You will learn to support individuals, families and communities in identifying and managing addictions through prevention and treatment programs. You will gain the skills to lead teams in developing programs to stem the damage of addiction. The 16-month (4 semester) diploma program gives graduates skills in counselling, case management, suicide prevention, program delivery and evaluation, and leadership. Program content emphasizes Aboriginal history and culture, and focuses on the needs of Aboriginal communities. EMPLOYMENT Graduates will work with individuals, families, and communities in identifying and managing addictions through prevention, harm reduction, enforcement, and treatment programs. Addictions Councillors often work as Team Leaders in community social services, children and youth services, justice system institutions, community Aboriginal services, and emergency shelters. The eight month (full-time) Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Certificate program prepares you to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan developmentally appropriate activities for the children in your care. You will learn child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning to support the healthy development of children through child-centered learning experiences. EMPLOYMENT Early childhood development workers have a wide variety of employment opportunities influenced by factors including: trends and events affecting overall employment, your location, employment turnover, occupational growth and size of the occupation.
