Introduction

The Tourism Schools Salzburg are among the leading hospitality institutes in Austria and Europe, preparing students for exciting and successful careers in the hospitality and tourism industry. Founded in 1946 and owned by the Salzburg Economic Chamber, the Tourism Schools Salzburg have educated more than 15,000 students from over 150 countries. Our graduates hold high level positions in tourism and hospitality businesses, government agencies and tourism boards all around the globe.

At four different locations programmes are offered to prepare students perfectly for a professional career in tourism. They provide a unique educational experience combining in-depth management training with hands-on practice. Special attention is paid to developing a professional level of competence in communication, as well as foreign language skills. German, English, French, Italian and Spanish are all offered at the Tourism Schools Salzburg. Social skills are sharpened through classroom education as well as practical tasks.

With the College of Hospitality Management a complete English-language diploma programme for international students is offered.

Additional international character is provided by the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, which is also part of the Tourism Schools Salzburg. Students from all over the world can acquire professional knowledge within a 8 months diploma course in Hospitality or Tourism Management and bring an exciting intercultural flair to the school.

The Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITH) is the international arm of the Tourism Schools Salzburg. It was opened in 1965 and has so far educated over 2,300 international students. The diploma offered at ITH equips graduates with an in-depth understanding of the operational and managerial aspects of this industry through a good blend of hands-on training and academic theory. Students will leave with entrepreneurial skills, a sound knowledge of management practices and with an understanding of sustainable tourism issues. Studying at ITH is not just about receiving high level professional training in hospitality and tourism, it is also about connecting with different cultures, languages and traditions from around the world. In an international industry like tourism such intercultural skills offer a competitive edge for your future career. The ITH diploma programme is ideally suited for those who have already gained experience in the hospitality or tourism industry and now wish to take their career to the next level. The eight-month programme is very intensive and students are required to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, self organisation and social competence. Two different specialisation modules - Hospitality Management or Tourism Management are offered. Training and education in Hospitality Management is provided in modern facilities with kitchen, bar and restaurant opportunities. The practical experience is coupled with teaching of the latest operational theories and trends in the hospitality industry. The two-year programme offered in English or German is highly industry focused, combining managerial subjects with practical training. In managerial subjects such as tourism management, business administration and marketing, student gain the knowledge and skills to successfully lead hospitality organisations in the future. Through hands-on practical training, they obtain invaluable experience in culinary arts and restaurant management (food preparation, service, bar and nutrition).
