Students & Campus

Located in one of the best neighbourhoods of the city of Buenos Aires: Palermo, our spanish School in Buenos Aires provides foreign students with everything they need: a relaxed environment, modern and comfortable classrooms equipped with state-of-the art technology, and excellent teacher and staff attention.

Our school is located just a few blocks away from Palermo Soho, a small area of Palermo Viejo around Plaza Serrano (officially Plazoleta Cortázar), which is a newly fashionable area for fashion, design, restaurants, bars and street culture. The atmosphere in many cafés and restaurants strives to be alternative, which makes this area of the city especially popular among Argentines as well as foreign tourists. The traditional low houses have been adapted into boutiques and bars, creating a bohemian feel.

The Soho side of Palermo exhibits the perfect harmony of tradition and avant-garde. This colourful corner of town is mostly frequented by artists, as its wide variety of restaurants, bars and boutiques makes it the perfect place for any kind of meeting. It also features discos, art galleries, independent theatres, antique shops, and several ateliers; all of which help create a bohemian and intellectual atmosphere.

The advantage of being situated in this part of the city is that, located in Palermo neighbourhood, the School is at the same time, very close to the city’s centre. You can get to the traditional Cathedral of Buenos Aires in only 20 minutes.

Practical Information

Methodology

Teaching methodology at DWS Spanish School, Buenos Aires is continually updated following the latest trends and thus ensure that our students enjoy a range of resources that respond to their needs.

Our Spanish teacher training department 's mission is to enrich our methods and educational principles in order to meet the demands and needs of our students.

Our main aims are:

Classes entirely delivered in Spanish orientated towards the development of communication skills of our students. Skills integration with special emphasis on listening comprehension and oral expression. Lesson planning based on our established Spanish syllabus combined with our students' needs and their diverse learning styles. Our classes are based on the communicative approach and we use the latest teaching methods for theory and practice. We are aware of the need to use a variety of methods as our students come from a range of backgrounds and ages and have varied learning styles and needs. Activating communicative skills means planning classes taking into account linguistic objectives and communication skills with special emphasis on sentence construction and use of appropriate words. Instead of repeating established structures, our teachers aim to help their students think and speak Spanish as a native Spanish speaker would do.

Due attention is also paid to grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing skills, and a wide variety of materials is used to complement the handbook for each level written by our coordinator.

All materials that the students need to work with are provided free of charge. This includes a Spanish handbook which is given to students at the beginning of their Spanish course.

The teaching and the course syllabus are carefully supervised by the Academic Coordinator, who is also responsible for ensuring that students are placed in the appropriate levels and that their progress is satisfactory.

While the atmosphere in the classroom is generally relaxed and informal, students should be willing to work and participate actively, in a cooperative and respectful atmosphere.
