The "Systematic Product Innovation" Summer School is conceptualized and conducted by the Institute for Engineering Design (ikt) of the RWTH Aachen University. Within this intense two-week programme students not only get insight to established and cutting-edge methods and processes of product innovation and development but also gain relevant experience in hands-on workshops featuring the analysis and improvement of a real life product. Students learn to carry out market research, identify and evaluate requirements, set up functions and their structures and to derive and vary concepts for product innovations. These concepts will be transferred into a suitable embodiment design using conventional and agile methods including rapid prototyping technologies.
Dr.-Ing. Manuel Löwer is the scientifc director of this Summer School and Executive Manager of the Institute for Engineering Design. He holds teaching positions at the RWTH Aachen University in the field of Systematic Engineering such as “Collaborative Engineering”, “Processes and Principles for Lightweight Design” and “Strukturentwurf und Konstruktion”. After his diploma in Mechanical Engineering with focus on Automotive Engineering and professional experience in the Automotive Industry, he achieved his Dr.-Ing. degree in the field of Innovation and Product Lifecycle Management. Since 2006 is associated with the Institute for Engineering Design and led the PLM and Systematic Engineering department before being appointed Executive Manager in 2010. Besides he works as a consultant for ID-Consult GmbH (Innovation and Development) in Munich and heads their office in Aachen. He is also founder and CEO of the company ikt Syprac and chairman of the Interessengemeinschaft Methodikforschung Produktinnovation | Konstruktion | technisches Design Aachen e. V.
The RWTH International Academy works closely together with the International Office, the Language Center and the Institute for Engineering Design (ikt) of the RWTH Aachen University to offer a perfect mix of technical study and cultural experience. The Institute for Engineering Design focuses especially on computer-aided product design and development - the elementary ingredients for innovation and technology leadership. Within their very interdisciplinary team, the IKT provides a practice-oriented education, which is based on distinct cooperation with international industry partners and application-oriented specific research. For decades, the IKT has been training outstanding engineers in the field of systematic product development as a worldwide recognized institution in the field of design methodology and product life-cycle management. In our four competency groups, research is being done on a broad interdisciplinary spectrum of current, future and industry-related issues.
