The “Production Technology meets Industry 4.0” Summer School offers an insight into specific research projects of the Cluster of Excellence which addresses and examines various drivers of Industry 4.0 in order to accelerate the process of industrial development. The Industry 4.0 is an initiative by the German government which started in 2011 in order to push on the integration of production with information and communication technologies. In this context, digitization, automation, human-machine interaction as well as better networked production systems play an important role.
The "Production Technology meets Industry 4.0" Summer School addresses excellent students in engineering and material science from all over the world who would like to learn more about new production technologies in connection with Industry 4.0.
Within the three modules "Smart Factory", "Intelligent Automation & Assembly" and "Individual & Advanced Manufacturing Processes" participating students gain first-hand experience with new technologies at all levels of a production system. Within the module "Smart Factory" participants not only learn about methods for efficient factory and production planning but also apply them. The module” Intelligent Automation & Assembly" involves the concept of one-piece-flow and cognitive robots. Participants get the opportunity to program and handle robots themselves. The last module "Individual & Advanced Manufacturing Processes" presents individual and integrative shaping, forming, joining and cutting processes that use simulations and process control in order to optimize the process as well as the resulting product.
The RWTH International Academy works closely together with the International Office, the Language Center of the RWTH Aachen University and the RWTH Cluster of Excellence „Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries“ to offer a perfect mix of technical study and cultural experience.
