The Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law is designed for professionals in any industry who need a background in protecting their brands, inventions, and original works, including those starting a new business. Our intellectual property courses provide an intensive exposure to the patent rights, trademark, and copyright protection laws, as well as related areas, such as trade secrets. No specialized scientific knowledge is required for our intellectual property law courses.
Courses offered are:
- Patent & Trade Secrets Law
- Trademark & Unfair Competition Law
- Copyright Law
- HIPAA Privacy & Security
- Biotechnology and the Law
- Cybersecurity and Privacy: Law, Policy, Compliance
Materials for intellectual property courses online are drawn from statutory and regulatory texts, judicial decisions, and expert commentary. Through a series of multimedia presentations, guided discussions, and individually supervised writing projects, students learn to interpret legal documents and assess their business implications.
A Certificate in Intellectual Property Law can be completed in 24 weeks and will be awarded upon completion of three courses. Two of the three courses must be Copyright Law, Patent & Trade Secret Law, or Trademark & Unfair Competition Law. Each course takes eight weeks to complete, and you may take them in any order you choose.
All of our Graduate Certificate courses within the intellectual property law program offer intensive, individualized feedback, as well as an opportunity to develop the practical skills necessary to research and communicate effectively about the law.
You can take any or all of the certificate courses, in any order you choose. An Intellectual Property certificate will be awarded upon completion of three courses.
All nine credits earned in the online graduate certificate program can be applied towards the Master of Science in Jurisprudence degree.
We offer our graduate IP certificate programs during our spring, summer and fall semesters. New course sessions begin five times per year.
