After extensive preliminary discussions with ISDE's faculty, participating top Legal Firms and Professionals, we structured this program in International Tax Law. ISDE previously offered a course focused on U.S. Tax Law which was a great success for a number of years. However today ISDE has the ability to offer an International and Comparative perspective meaning this course provides essential insight to both European and U.S. professionals.
The overarching intent of this prestigious program is to offer students, U.S. and foreign-trained attorneys a course of study designed directly to prepare them to better understand this field of practice in the context where international operations are being carried out worldwide on a daily basis. Considering the growing closeness between the US and European markets with agreements such as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), there is now a new need for lawyers to be aware of new collaborative opportunities that will arise.
Objetives and Students
The International Tax Law Course is designed to be a practitioner's course and is designed for experienced lawyers, accountants and other professionals with an interest in Finance and Tax Law. Those with a proven interest, experience and knowledge in the field of Taxation who are interested in learning about major elements of the International aspects of Tax Law will also find it extremely beneficial. The course is open as well to recent graduates in Law, Business or Economics interested in learning and getting first hand experience of the International Tax Law rules.
As it is ISDE's philosophy, we not only aim to give our students the most up-to-date knowledge about International Taxation, but also to acquire the skills that will help them reach their professional goals.
To do this we count on academic staff composed of the most important lecturers in the field of International Tax Law in Europe and in the USA. Their commitment to making this program the best online in International Tax Law is the guarantee of its quality, bringing priceless and unique knowledge to this field for the benefit of trained lawyers and for the Firms themselves, who will find the information invaluable.
The program is focused on teaching topics of major elements within the field of International Taxation, which professional Lawyers, Tax or Finance Managers are not overly familiar with.
The target student population for the International Tax Law Course is:
- Attorneys from both civil and common law jurisdictions seeking training in International Tax Law practice.
- Students of Law, Business or Economics seeking training in International Tax Law practice.
Due to the fact that this Program will be offered to students or already practicing and experienced lawyers, Tax and Finance Managers and other professionals with ongoing activities, it is therefore understood that our students will not be able to make themselves available for a consecutive period of study in New York, and so the studies will be carried out on an "on-line basis".
Online learning can provide learning outcomes that are comparable or even superior to those of conventional educational formats. Through an online format students with professional experience are shown to work better when self-directed, as they are already shaped by the accumulation of authentic personal experience. Moreover their desire to learn grows out of a need to confront an ever-changing reality. Given the right tools and with the lecturers, the online methodology and the visit to top Law firms in New York, this course provides students with the knowledge and skills they aimed to acquire when they started the program.
The course is divided into 2 parts. The online element consists of 14 lectures combining materials, readings and references, including in some classes recorded videos of 2 or 3 hours of duration from collaborating Firms. Materials and/or Videos will be posted each Monday starting March 30th, 2015. Practical Cases and other materials such as readings, cases and references, will be provided to the students in advance of the class so they can work and have information on each specific topic, being able to download it from ISDE's Online Platform.
In some cases, for those students located in NYC, the possibility of attending one of the few Video-Lectures directly from the Firms will be also available.
One of the requirements to receive the Certificate at the end of the Course is to complete a test for each lecture, to consolidate an understanding of the topic that has been taught. There is no specific grade to pass the tests in order to receive the Certificate, but it is mandatory to complete them from the online Platform respecting the deadlines that will be established.
An email address will be provided in order to send all the questions and doubts that you may have concerning a lecture, materials, topics, professors, etc. In addition, each student will receive all the Firms, Professionals and Lecturers contact information. More importantly, the Firms themselves will receive a copy of the student's CV for their consideration.
The second part of the Program will consist of a 1 week visit to New York (this is optional). More information in the following section: TAX LAW WEEK – Encounter in New York.
ISDE manages all admissions.
In order to apply all students must send the Program Coordinator an updated copy of their CV and a Motivation Letter of no more than 200 words.
Students will be admitted based on their studies, academic record and professional experience. Students may be conditionally admitted to the course if certain ISDE's established conditions are met.
