International Foundation Year (IFY)
University of Southampton’s International Foundation Year (IFY) is the start of a 3 year Bachelors degree or a 4 year Maters degree. Itis suitable for international and EU students and helps students adjust to living in a different culture and a different language.
The IFY is an integrated year and, on successful completion, students are guaranteed progression onto their chosen Bachelors degree programme.
The IFYis structured around two semesters, each about 12 weeks long, and has core modules and elective modules. The 4 core modules are: Academic English, Critical Thinking and Research Skills, Contemporary Britain and The Global Society.The elective modules are relevant to the chosen Bachelors degree programme.
Each week, students have abouy 20 hours of tuition, including lectures, seminars and tutorials. Students also spend at least 15 hours a week studying independently with the guidance of their Tutors and Personal Academic Advisor.
Assessment is by essays, presentations and exams. In addition, students have to do a Personal Research Project in the second semester. This will be a study of a topic related to their chosen degree area and supported is provided from their academic advisor.

Four year visa - Bachelors degree (3 years) + IFY (1 year)
IFY Director's Scholarships - £6000 discount on Bachelors degrees studied at University of Southampton awarded to the best performing students at the end of the IFY (Awarded as £2000 per year for a 3 year Bachelors degree).
