Graduate Diploma in Communication Design
The program has been designed for you to develop further knowledge and skills in Communication Design, specialising in Advanced Creative Practice for the increasingly convergent and diverse media and communication industries. In the program you will develop a design portfolio and a range of business, entrepreneurial and collaborative skills and knowledge that can drive the creation of new businesses enterprises.
You will critically engage with current trends of the communication design discipline and be conversant in the key concepts and processes underpinning the constantly evolving industry, with a focus on collaborative studio practice and design entrepreneurship. You will also interrogate key principles of design management in courses shared with the Design Management plan. Learning activities will include discussion of resources that extend understanding and stimulate critique and individual and collaborative creative projects that combine practice and research to produce business-driven outcomes.
On completion of the program you will be a creative practitioner who can contribute to industry developments and design innovation. You will be able to engage with communication design practice in the broader context of the global media and communication industry. You will be prepared for roles including in digital design consultancies and design studios within business entities. You will be able to work independently or in teams and confidently communicate with allied professionals.

Pathways refer to related programs for which you may be eligible once you have graduated from your current program.
As this postgraduate program is nested in the Master of Communication Design once you have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Communication Design you can apply to progress to the final semester of the Master program.
An undergraduate degree, or its equivalent, in a relevant discipline. Applicants with a minimum of three years work experience or professional practice in a related field may also be considered.
English language requirements
To study this program you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:
- Academic IELTS (minimum scores) overall band of 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0
- TOEFL (Paper-based): minimum score of 580 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5)
- TOEFL (Internet-based): minimum score of 92 with a minimum of 20 in each section
- Cambridge English (Advanced CAE): CAE Grade B
- Pearson: Minimum score of 58 (no band less than 50).
