Financing the Entrepreneurial Business Programme

London Business School

Programme overview

Financing the Entrepreneurial Business gives participants the practical skills to navigate every stage of the process involved in securing investment for high growth businesses. During the programme, you will:

  • learn to value privately-held companies and select and structure the right financing option
  • explore how entrepreneurs and investors work together and analyse how each contributes to ensuring the success of a business
  • evaluate the different exit strategies available.

Unique among entrepreneurial finance programmes, this programme is taught from the perspective of both entrepreneurs and investors alike.

Content

At the core of the programme is an in-depth analysis of more than ten case studies that expose you to a wide range of deals covering both service and manufacturing, high-tech and low-tech as well as a wide range of transactions that include early stage financing, raising growth capital and buy-ins and buy-outs.

Key topics include:

  • valuation techniques for privately-held companies
  • non-financial factors impacting valuations
  • structuring and pricing of financing options: equity, loans and MBOs
  • multiple rounds of financing
  • the role of venture capital
  • investor considerations and pitfalls
  • exit strategies, including IPOs and trade sales.

Opportunities to apply knowledge

The programme offers participants the opportunity to submit an investment appraisal and Management Buy-Out (MBO) model for individual feedback. If you have a project you have recently been involved in, or are currently preparing, you can use the instructor's feedback to fine tune your own model before submitting it to the market.
