St. Angela's College Sligo, a College of the National University of Ireland, Galway

The courses in academic or general English aims to help and prepare overseas students attain the required level of English for undergraduate third level education in Irish universities and colleges. The timeframe of the course will vary depending on your level of English and the required level for your academic course. The course can be taken from 4 to 25 week duration. You will be asked to complete a placement test and submit a recent International English test score to assess your level of English. This will help us determine how many weeks you will be need to attend to achieve the level required for your future academic studies or standard you require.

As a general rule the following will offer you an indiaction of the number of weeks you may require:

  • B2+ IELTS 6.5 10 week
  • B2 IELTS 6.0 20 week
  • B1+ IELTS 5.5 25 - 30 week

How many hours per week will I attend classes?

Classes are held daily in the mornings with a minimum of 15 hours’ tuition per week. Our Englsih langauge course are taught by tutors who understand the skills and knowledge that you require for success.

Will there be someone to show me the college and help me to find my way around?

We organise an induction in the first two weeks to help you settle into your new surroundings and become involved with local clubs and social events. As part of our on-going programmes, we also organise social evenings where all of our students can meet up. Throughout the year we organise a programme of excursions, which are designed to give you both an opportunity to use your new language skills and to develop an awareness of Irish culture

  • Number of hours per week: 15 hours or 20 hours
  • Course Duration: 4 weeks to 25 weeks
  • Approximate cost: 1 week = €155 per week

  • Áine Kelly has extensive English Language teaching and co-ordinating expertise. She has an internationally recognised English Language qualification (CELTA).
  • Maura Kilfeather, International Student Support Tutor
  • B.A. in French, English and German. H.Dip. in Ed ,CELT. Maura has worked as a Tutor in St. Angela’s for over two years, most recently as International Student Tutor in the Centre for Lifelong Learning.
  • Dr Alice Lyons
  • Alice was born and educated on the East Coast of the United States and has lived in Ireland, from where her family emigrated, since 1998. She brings a keen interest in language and linguistics, intercultural awareness, and creativity to her teaching.

  • Tom Wilmot has a wealth of Englsih language teaching experience gained over the past 20 years.
