Would you like to learn more about the Dutch – their culture and education system? Then look no further because the English Intensive Course (EIC) is just the course for you!
The EIC greatly enhances your chance for success in your studies at HAN. The course is taught at the Arnhem campus of HAN University of Applied Sciences. You can choose between the short and long programme. The short programme lasts for 1 semester and the long programme for 2 semesters.

The English Intensive Course (EIC) at HAN University of Applied Sciences is an intensive course. This means you will have quite a high number of lectures each week. You will first have 7 weeks of lectures and then exams. After this, you will have another 6 weeks of lectures and then a new set of exams.

Student are not awarded ECTS credits for completing the EIC. However, the number of hours you must spend on the course is equivalent to 30 ECTS credits for the 6-month course and 60 ECTS credits for the 12-month course.
One ECTS credit represents 28 hours of study, and 60 credits represent one year of full-time study.
After successfully completing the English Intensive Course (EIC), you have reached a level of English comparable to an average IELTS score of 6 or a B2 (Common European Framework of Reference). You have also learned to adapt to life in the Netherlands and you have the necessary study skills and knowledge of the Dutch educational system to continue your studies here successfully.
For most of the subjects you will be assessed by means of written exams. You will sit for written exams halfway through and at the end of the semester. You will also have other kinds of assessment. You will be tested on your English speaking and listening skills in the language laboratory. For the subject Dutch culture, you will have to complete assignments, for example presentations and reports. You will be assessed on your study skills through a personal portfolio in which you will write about and reflect on your improvements.
To be admitted into the English Intensive Course you must have a certificate of secondary education and a language certificate such as:
- An overall score of 5.5 on the IELTS.
- An overall score of 5.0 on the IELTS.
- A HAN intake officer will interview all EIC candidates. The intake officer will make the final decision about your admission in the course.
