The Diploma of Hospitality (F&B) qualification reflects the role of individuals who use sound knowledge of industry operations and a broad range of managerial skills to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in any sector of the hospitality industry as a departmental or small business manager.

Pathways into the qualification
It is strongly recommended that individuals undertake lower level qualifications, and/or gain industry experience prior to entering SIT50313 Diploma of Hospitality. However this is not mandatory.
Pathways from the qualification
After achieving SIT50313 Diploma of Hospitality, individuals could progress to SIT60313 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality or higher education qualifications in management.
Assessment strategies are developed in consultation with industry. Case studies and simulated workplace environment will be used to ensure appropriate application of skills. Assessment methods include: Case study projects, Role play, Written report, Presentations, Projects, Simulated restaurant activities, Industry placement for 36 sessions for SITHIND301 Work effectively in hospitality service. Assessments will be provided for each unit.
Duration and Course Delivery
- 78 Weeks total duration
Students will attend the college 2.5 days per week (20 hours per week)
Two workshops per day in 8 hours in duration and one workshop for 4 hours per day.
The majority of the assessment activities will be completed in the workshop simulated environment.
All participants will attend an orientation workshop prior to commencement to discuss the course, delivery, RPL, assessment, support systems, pathways and to do a LLN assessment.
Note: if students receive credit transfer for units in the Diploma of Hospitality the overall duration may be reduced. This would be identified in a student’s learning plan.
