Course Studies 2017 in Midland USA. The Intensive English Program at Northwood University provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction for degree seeking and non-degree seeking students. Students will improve their English language skills, as well as gain knowledge of American Culture and the American university classroom. Curriculum Northwood University’s IEP consists of six (6) levels. Each level takes one semester or one summer session to complete. Pre-Elementary Elementary Intermediate Pre-Advanced Advanced Graduate (for graduate students only) Students receive 20 hours of classroom instruction in fall and spring semesters, and 25 hours of instruction in the condensed summer semester. Students study in four skills: Speaking/Listening, Reading/Vocabulary, Writing, and Grammar. In addition, Northwood University offers language lab hours to provide tutoring and additional instruction in TOEFL Preparation or Rosetta Stone. The TOEFL test is administered at the end of each semester. Outside the Classroom Northwood University has outstanding sports teams, and Northwood students are encouraged to attend games. In addition, there are numerous clubs and organizations, including the International Business Association, which all international students are welcome to join. The annual International Auto Show and annual Style Show provide hands-on experiences for NU’s students, and the numerous musical performances, art exhibitions, speakers’ series, and other cultural events keep NU’s students entertained. The Intensive English Program also plans trips for IEP students. Trips may include NBA games and visits to museums, local farms, and shopping malls.
