All applications are subject to approval by the Cal Poly Pomona Office of Admissions and Outreach. Eligibility Guidelines 1. Recent First-Time-Freshman applicants only; 2. Completion of a comprehensive pattern of college preparatory study with grades of “C” or better in all subjects is required; 3. Grade point average of B/3.0 or better (A=4.0) for study since 10th grade is required 4. Official high school transcripts/marksheets need to be provided for each year of study since 9th grade; official copies of high school graduation certificate/diploma are also required if applicable; and official documents in languages other than English must include certified English translation. 5. Course Studies 2017 in Pomona USA. What is the Cal Poly Pomona Academic Studies Program? The Academic Studies Program (A.S.P.) at the Cal Poly English Language Institute provides qualified international students the opportunity to enroll in credit classes at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (CPP). In addition, the A.S.P. offers students a variety of classes and support services designed to enhance student success in these credit classes. Students may enter the program at different stages based on official transcripts and official English proficiency scores (iBT TOEFL, IELTS, and/or iTEP) submitted with the A.S.P. application. At each stage of the program, students may enroll in a combination of credit classes and non-credit contact-hour classes in order to maintain a full-course of study. What are the objectives of the Academic Studies Program? The A.S.P. seeks to provide qualified international students a combination of English language skills development and university-level coursework that matches their specific level of English language proficiency and academic achievement. All grades for credit classes will be recorded on an official Cal Poly Pomona transcript. Who should apply for the Academic Studies Program? The Academic Studies Program is a visiting student program. Students are able to enroll in Cal Poly Pomona approved classes without applying to the university. Students who study in the A.S.P. are non-matriculating, non-degree seeking students. International students who are interested in pursuing a degree at Cal Poly Pomona should apply for full acceptance to their program of choice through the regular admissions process. At all stages, the Academic Studies Program is designed simulate a full-time course of study in an American university. Students should expect a rigorous academic experience that reflects the best traditions of Cal Poly Pomona’s “learn by doing” philosophy. Therefore, students who are motivated to perform consistently at a high academic level are right for the A.S.P. How long may I study in the Academic Studies Program? Students may study in the A.S.P. for up to four quarters depending on the level of courses taken. The form I-20 may not be extended past four quarters. Eligibility Guidelines for Undergraduate Students Submission of high school and/or university course transcripts/marksheet. Transcripts need to be provided for each year of study since 9th grade. Transcripts should indicate completion of a comprehensive pattern of college preparatory study (per CSU guidelines with grades of "C" or better in all subjects is required. High school grade point average and test scores are used together to determine eligibility. Grade point average of 2.5 or better (A=4.0) for study since 10th grade is required. Achieve minimum English language proficiency scores. The chart below indicates the A.S.P. stage that students will likely qualify for based on proficiency scores and review of transcripts.
