Instrumentation Technicians commission, install, calibrate, maintain and repair complex measurement and control systems used in a variety of process control applications. This program will provide you with a solid footing in both theory and practice, utilizing hands-on experience in a modern, well-equipped laboratory designed to emulate common control systems found in industry. Our lab features functioning processes employing pneumatic, as well as modern microprocessor based electronic control equipment such as PLC’s, Distributed Control Systems, and field networks. The two-year program consists of four academic semesters and two sixteen-week co-op placement terms (optional). After the second academic semester, you may be eligible to participate in the first co-op work term. The second coop term is scheduled after the fourth academic semester. Co-op provides you with hands-on experience above and beyond what traditional classroom instruction and laboratories can provide. This is the only Instrumentation Engineering Technician program in the province of Ontario that has earned national accreditation status. [-]

Our Electrical Engineering Technician program will equip you with electrical and electronic theory and practice - the tools you need to take on entry level positions or an apprenticeship in the electrical industry. Program Highlights The four-semester Electrical Engineering Technician program will provide you with a solid foundation. You will learn about programmable logic controls (PLCs), electrical and electronic circuits and systems, instrumentation, cabling, network engineering, and electrical machines and controls. Extensive practice labs will provide you with ample opportunity to develop skills required to assume entry level positions or an electrical apprenticeship. A technical skills shortage is looming both regionally and nationally in Canada. This program has been designed to help fill these technical positions as the manufacturing sector becomes more specialized, the construction industry flourishes, and retirement rates increase. You will need these abilities and skills to succeed: an interest in skilled trades and technology enjoyment of problem-solving and troubleshooting manual dexterity a degree of mathematical savvy in order to conduct the calculations necessary (assistance for those not yet proficient with Math has been factored into the program curriculum). Program Highlights As an Instrumentation and Control Technician your career will be technology-based with an applied edge. This four-semester Ontario College Diploma program will prepare you for a hands-on, exciting and rewarding career in emerging engineering and scientific fields. The program provides valuable and in-demand skills required in today's process, manufacturing, and calibration facilities. These include, but are not limited to: Process Control, Safety, Electrical/Electronic Controls and Sensors SCADA/PLC, Automation/Robotics Industrial Communications and Data Acquisition You will also learn required skills in communications, mathematics, science and health and safety to enhance your knowledge and skills for application in the workplace. Candidates in good standing can attend a one week professional training program hosted by Siemens Milltronics Process Instruments, located in Peterborough. This free training allows you to learn the ins and outs of some of the world's best instruments in a professional setting, taught by a certified Siemens professional.
